Dal 15 al 17 maggio si è svolto a Bruxelles il ciclo di conferenze Beyond Growth / Oltre la Crescita

A differenza della prima edizione del 2018, passata quasi inosservata e di fronte a un pubblico limitato, questa ha fatto passi da gigante sia in termini di numero di relatori, di pubblico presente che di diffusione.

All’interno dell’emiciclo del Parlamento europeo, si è discusso del futuro e si è esposta la portata della trasformazione sociale da attuare per affrontare realmente il cambiamento climatico ma anche le sfide ambientali (biodiversità, inquinamento, ciclo dell’acqua, ….).

Lontano dalla crescita verde, dal disaccoppiamento, dalle soluzioni “superficiali” e dalle “misure” politiche, …. le parole “decrescita” e “cambiamento del paradigma economico e finanziario” sono state chiaramente enunciate dalla maggioranza dei relatori multidisciplinari e non solo dai rappresentanti delle scienze esatte.

Siamo ancora lontani dal vedere i grandi decisori (politici, economici, finanziari, …) mettere in atto i cambiamenti richiesti e necessari, ma il percorso di una riflessione politica e cittadina è avviato nelle nostre istituzioni.

Jason Hickel

Dr. Jason Hickel is an economic anthropologist, author, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  He is Professor at the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Visiting Senior Fellow at the International Inequalities Institute at the London School of Economics, and Chair Professor of Global Justice and the Environment at the University of Oslo. He is Associate Editor of the journal World Development, and serves on the Climate and Macroeconomics Roundtable of the National Academy of Sciences, the Statistical Advisory Panel for the UN Human Development Report, the advisory board of the Green New Deal for Europe, and the Harvard-Lancet Commission on Reparations and Redistributive Justice.

Sandrine Dixson-Declève

Sandrine Dixson-Declève is an international climate change, sustainable development, sustainable finance and complex systems thought leader. She is currently the Co-president of the Club of Rome, together with Mamphela Ramphele, the first women to lead the organization in its history. 

Timothée Parrique

Timothée Parrique is a social scientist, originally from Versailles, France. He is currently a researcher at the School of Economics and Management of Lund University (Sweden).

He holds a PhD in economics from the Centre d’Études et de Recherches sur le Développement (University of Clermont Auvergne, France) and the Stockholm Resilience Centre (Stockholm University, Sweden). Titled “The political economy of degrowth” (2019), his dissertation explores the economic implications of degrowth. Tim is the author of Ralentir ou périr. L’économie de la décroissance (September 2022, Seuil), a book adaptation in French of his PhD dissertation. Tim is also the lead author of “Decoupling debunked – Evidence and arguments against green growth” (2019), a report published by the European Environmental Bureau (EEB). He frequently writes about green growth and decoupling.
